Job description:  

Plans and conducts independent work within a global business unit requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, application and adaptation of Highway engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria for Highway/Roadway design. Should be able to manage self-perform transportation and highway design engineering for national or international highway/roadway projects. 

Candidate should have worked in an engineering office or consultancy of repute performing relevant work and is fluent in applicable codes in US, UK and Europe and governing highway/roadway designs including AASHTO, US FHWA and TEM and have hands-on expertise in using design software such as MX-Road, InRoads and Autocad Civil 3D. Knowledge of Quntum software will be preferred. 

Candidate should be capable of leading an integrated team of engineers and designers across geotechnical, hydrology, civil works, highway, traffic, and associated structures such as underpass, bridge, toll gate, and drainage structures. Additional areas of knowledge are to include e-highway and interchange geometrics, alignment, grading, flexible/rigid pavement design, traffic analysis, highway signing and marking, signals and utilities. 

Must possess outstanding communication and presentation skills and be able to organize with transportation authorities, multimodal transport agencies, environmental agencies, and land acquisition authorities. 

Should be able to assistance project proposal activities, concept design, preliminary design, detailed design and construction phase services. 

In addition, should be able to look after safety in design, quality, schedule, and cost during the various phases of design. 

Responsibilities

  1. Plans, schedules, conducts, and coordinates detailed phases of engineering work for a global business unit usually in one discipline in a project or staff group. Performs work thatinvolves conventional engineering practice but may include complex features such as resolving conflicting design requirements, constructability, unsuitability of conventional materials and/or difficult coordination requirements. 
  2. Performs work using Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs) and appropriate 3-D computer aided design and computer aided engineering (CAD and CAE) tools.
  3. Plans and coordinates independent work requiring judgment and experience in the application and substantial adaptation of engineering techniques.
  4. Coordinates engineering efforts in assigned areas between specialty and other engineering groups or disciplines, with the client, suppliers, and contractors and between other groups. 
  5. When delegated, assumes a lead technical role over other engineers or project subgroups for completing specific tasks and lead a team of engineers and CAD technicians working on major motorway/ expressway project.
  6. Prepare, check/review, approve conceptual studies, designs and detailed project drawings, proposals, design criteria & specifications, project budget and schedules
  7. Assists in on-the-job-training of assigned personnel and mentors them and provides input for their performance evaluations.
  8. Prepares & reviews bids and makes recommendation.
  9. Prepares and/or assists in the preparation of cost estimates, quantity take-offs and staffing requirements for proposals, forecasts, trends and manage change orders.
  10. Provide assistance tothe Construction Department and Field Engineering to resolve Contractor Technical Queries and resultant field changes. 
  11. Initiates requests for specialized professional services.
  12. Reviews project engineering progress against approved schedules, evaluates changes and takes corrective action when required. 
  13. Manages the flow of information required from third parties to assure the timely progress of the engineering work.
  14. Ensures that technical risk assessments are comprehensive and complete, safety practices and procedures are implemented, and engineering design and corresponding design documentation are in compliance with project Quality Assurance plan and procedures. 
  15. Assistances the creation of a work environment that fosters openness, trust, communication, teamwork, empowerment, innovation, satisfaction and in planning and implementing a program to develop self-perform engineering capabilities and resources.

Job Knowledge 

  1. In-depth knowledge of road alignment, geometric design, junctions, roundabouts and interchanges and flexible/ rigid pavement design 
  2. Simulating Highway Engineering problems using computer models, and working out solutions 
  3. Assessing and interpreting data gathered from transport studies 
  4. Understanding traffic data for the pavement design calculations 
  5. Prepare designs and assist in preparation of design budgets 
  6. Ability to conduct review of design consultants and contractors design and drawing submission
  7. Packages in terms of technical compliance including ensuring that the submitted design takes into account safety during construction and operations. 
  8. Ability to deal with relevant Municipality, Department of Transportation, Traffic Police, Urban Planning 
  9. Council authorities and understanding local standards and requirements relating to highway engineering 
  10. Knowledge of BIM packages such as BIM360, Project wise, Navisworks 
  11. Fully knowledgeable about international codes, standards and recommended practices to be applied for road, interchanges, junctions and roundabouts construction projects. 
  12. Possess a broad understanding of the digital delivery and major design engineering deliverables.
  13. To assistance and realize the requirements of related disciplines like structures, civil works, hydrology, traffic and bridge designs, construction and the economics involved. 
  14. Ability to work independently and be sensitive to environmental and social considerations associated with large scale motorway / highway projects. 
  15. Experience of coordination and high-quality presentations to clients, multimodal transport agencies, environmental agencies, land acquisition authorities. 
  16. Understanding of engineering planning and control methods including computerized methods.
  17. Ability to monitor progress of assigned engineering team, design consultants and contractors, and manage deliverable packages including design calculations, drawings specifications etc 
  18. Good written and verbal communication skills in English language

Education & Experience: 

  • A recognized bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited college or university and master’s degree in Highway or Transportation Engineering will be preferred. 
  • A professional license in an appropriate engineering discipline from a recognized licensing board will be preferred. 
  • Exposure to various international highway standards is a must. 
  • Experience in leading a team of engineers and CAD technicians. 
  • At least 20 years in design of large-scale Highways & Roads projects including at least 10 years on 
  • International Projects. Demonstrated skill in supervision in a lead position for minimum 5 years.
